I have always loved the water - being on or near a river, lake or ocean has always brought me peace. And finding myself close to the Ocean where I can enjoy the amazing ever changing water whenever I want is my idea of Nirvana. Its probably why Blue has always been a favorite color of mine - the variances in the different tones remind me of the way the water changes with the light and weather. These new waves tie together my love of glass and my love of the Ocean.
Powerful yet delicate….
These glass waves are my interpretation of the rolling waves of the ocean - the curves at the peaks and the bubbles as the water comes crashing down.
Adding in different colors, such as greens, purples and even grays at times to bring the waves to life. While this technique is not new, I have worked to infuse my individuality and sense of the start and end of the rolling wave into each piece.
Each are individually made using multiple colors and clear glass to build the depth and beauty of each wave. The white and clear bubbles highlight the peak of the wave before it comes crashing down. The base of the wave is deep and strong, moving to the delicate bubbles that surround the edges and make it feel alive. Simple yet intricate, strong yet delicate — glass waves show the strength and beauty in each wave. Creating waves are a new venture for me and I am enjoying every step of the process. The process of creating each one and having the glass pieces and colors guide me to to create pieces that will bring delight and remind the owner of the beauty of the ocean every time they look at them. And every time I make one, I have more ideas for making them...
These waves can be made in sizes from as small as 3-4 inches up to about 12 inches tall. They are fused to have a rough texture to them, however they can be more fully fused if smoother look is desired. The slideshow below shows examples of both. Each one comes on an Oak stand that has been made specifically for each piece, or they can be mounted on a wrought iron stands. These are all samples of completed waves - each one will vary and no two will ever be exactly the same.
