My long and winding road has always lead me here… Glass

(with appreciation to the Beatles!)

My glass adventure began driving by a stained glass store on my daily commute almost 30 (?!) years ago. Stopping on a whim I signed up for class and made my first piece (a stained glass lamp - which I still have). And as fellow Glassaholics will say, “ I was hooked”. This lead to a fascination with making beads, my first foray into melting glass. A torch, kiln and many other accessories later, I was making beads whenever I had the chance.

Fast forward to a spur of the moment decision to take a weekend fused glass glass at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria VA led me to glass jewelry. This armed me with a new passion and from then on, it has been fusing glass and experiencing the excitement of how my ideas would look when they came out of the kiln — and it still never ceases to amaze me (its like Christmas morning every time) . What works one time, doesn’t another, and then what I know will be a failed test turns out beautiful. There were a few years of breaks, life does get in the way - but I always found when i got back to glass I felt peace.

Maybe its the balance from a career in technology where you create amazing things but never put your hands on it to having a finished product you can touch, feel and enjoy when its done? Or the sense of calm when sitting in my studio surrounded by beautiful pieces of glass and creating? Whatever it is, glass has been where I can find my balance and peace no matter where the roads were taking me.

Fast forward (again)… I now find myself living my dream - a short drive from the beach, building new friendships and exploring my new home. And, through the wonders of that very same technology I have spent my career working in, I am able to learn from great teachers from my home, and find the network to learn (and admire) from some of the most talented glass artists around the world. My hope is to take what I’m learning and embed it with my own unique style and create glass pieces that bring a smile and joy into life.

All of the images on this site are from my studio and my glass (including my logo). with the exception of the views below. Close up images of the glass bring a different texture and I wanted to share some of those “up close and personal” views of pieces I created using enamels

Daily sites like the calm of the ocean on a quiet day or the amazing colors of the sunsets are perfect for bringing out creativity
